NATIONAL SERVICE Building a Non-Violent Society
Dr. Wooday P Krishna's national service includes popularizing Gandhian thoughts among the youth by organizing camps, seminars, lectures, exhibitions and publications as Chairman of Gandhi Peace Foundation, Bengaluru Centre, an all India Institution for propagating Gandhian thoughts in contemporary context; as Committee Member of Karnataka Sarvodaya Mandal, a State Wing of Sarva Seva Sangh founded by Mahatma Gandhi; as President of Karnataka Gandhi Smaraka Nidhi and Managing Trustee of Viswaneedam Trust, Bengaluru, one of the six Ashrams of Acharya Vinoba Bhave, the spiritual heir of Mahatma Gandhi. He also serves as a member of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Museum, Madurai. Dr. Krishna is serving as a trustee of Central Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, Rajghat, New Delhi which has under its ambit over 1500 centres across India.
He was a Member of a High Level Committee appointed by the Govt. of Karnataka to develop Gandhi Bhavan, Bengaluru along with noted Gandhians and Freedom Fighters like Dr. Patil Puttappa, Dr. H S Doreswamy and Dr. H Srinivasaiah. He has been a Member of Gandhi Shanti Seva Award Selection Committee appointed by Govt. of Karnataka.
Dr. Krishna is the Past Honorary Treasurer of Bharath Seva Dal Central Committee (originally Hindustani Seva Dal founded in 1923 with Padma Bhushan Dr. N. S. Hardikar as General Secretary), a non-political, youth and national service organization aided by the Government of Karnataka and working for the promotion of national unity and integrity. He has played a key role in organizing thousands of Seva Dal Training Camps for school teachers; Bharat Seva Dal units in over 14,000 government and aided schools across Karnataka; hundreds of National Integration Rallies for school children at taluk, district and state levels, besides establishing Dr. M. C. Modi Seva Dal Training Centre in Bengaluru.
Dr. Krishna has been relentlessly working to preserve and promote secular outlook among the people by organizing programmes aimed at fostering inter-faith harmony and educating children in the unity of religions by guiding the activities of the century old International Association for Religious Freedom (IARF), Karnataka Chapter, as its Chairman.
He has been infusing Gandhian ideology into the hearts of school, college and university students through well-planned motivational camps, special lectures and seminars.
Dr. Krishna has been propagating anti-alcoholism by conducting mass awareness programmes for the youth through the Gandhi Bhavan in association with Karnataka State Temperance Board.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, on behalf of Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Heritage Area Development Authority, conferred the prestigious 'Nadaprabhu Kempegowda International Award 2024' on Karnataka Gandhi Smarak Nidhi, Gandhi Bhavan, Bengaluru, for its exemplary public service during Dr Wooday P Krishna's tenure as President of the Nidhi.
Dr. Krishna has been nominated as a Member of 'Gandhi Bharat' Celebration Committee constituted by Govt. of Karnataka to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi's centenary of presiding over the historic 1924 Belagavi session of All India Congress Committee, 2024.
